It's called fingerpicking. You take two different fingers and pluck the strings at the same time, as to get a harmony. A good example of this is the song Dream On by Aerosmith or Blackbird by the Beatles. You can do it with a pick or without- i prefer without.

*sighs* I don't know how to read tabs because my teacher, who happens to be a fucking guitar god, figured that it would be better to start out just teaching us the guitar with the regular 5-bar staff, at least for like 3 months or so.....so I'm going to need lots of your help Carleigh
